ESI Corporation, Sub Regional Office is setup since sep 2005 for the smooth operation and functioning of the Scheme in Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu. The activities comprise implementation in co-ordination with State Govts, inspections, surveys and enforcement, collection of revenue, administration of branch offices, cash offices and inspection offices and delivery of cash benefits to ESI beneficiaries.
Under the Sub Regional Office, there are 7 branch offices for the administration of the scheme including the disbursement of cash benefits to Beneficiaries.
Consequent upon the decision of ESIC Headquarters Office, in October 1989, the Sub Regional Office, Madurai was set up with effect from 16.04.1990 by trifurcation of Tamil Nadu Region to enable effective administration, easy accessibility and early settlement of the claims and grievances of the beneficiaries and the employers.
The Sub Regional Office, Madurai is one of the field offices of ESI Corporation initially entrusted with the administration of ESI Scheme in nine Southern Revenue Districts of Tamil Nadu State (Dindigul, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Theni, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Virudhunagar). As on 31st March 1990, the Sub Regional Office, Madurai had a coverage of 1.30 lakhs employees working in 2369 factories / establishments.The Sub Region was bifurcated in January 2006, and Tirunelveli Sub Region was formed, which is entrusted with the administration of the ESI Scheme in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin Districts.
Initially, the Sub Regional Office Madurai started functioning in a rented building. Now, it is housed in Corporation’s own building with effect from 9th November 2001, which was constructed at a cost of Rs.1.29 crores with a total plinth area of 21,210 sq.ft. at K.K.Nagar, a prime locality in Madurai.Our respected the then Director General inaugurated the new Sub Regional Office Building at Madurai on 09.11.2001 and dedicated the new building to the Insured persons and Members of Industries who have contributed to this scheme as well as to the staff of the Sub-Regional Office.
